The Wheelwrights' Restaurant is situated next to the shop (which is a bit too full of tat for my taste). Bypassing the atmosphere entirely, the food is packaged cold sandwiches, salads, and wraps. I had a smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel - but the bagel was poor quality and the salmon was cheap offcuts that were far too salty and unpleasantly fishy (I love smoked salmon by the way). I also had a chocolate cookie with a cup of tea. The cookie was very "unchocolatey" and had a problem with its identity: was it a shortbread or was is a biscuity cookie? Whilst finishing off, a waitress started cleaning the tables, and was placing her filthy bucket of water ON THE EMPTY TABLES AND CHAIRS. I complained to the manager on leaving, and vowed to visit again, but to nosh at a good pub in Rochester over the bridge the next time! Overpriced and unimaginative food - service spoiled by surly, unaware staff. AVOID...
