brinkley1988's review of Huawei U8500

“A new FCC filing has revealed a stylish new Android...”

A new FCC filing has revealed a stylish new Android 2.2 device from Huawei. The Huawei U8500 is a touchscreen-only device running Android 2.2, with what looks like an optical trackpad. We can assume the device is bound for T-Mobile based on the fact that it is operating on the quad-band GSM/EDGE and 1700MHz AWS WCDMA spectra.

Further information is limited, but we can tell that it has a camera of unknown resolution, a 3.5mm headset jack, a microUSB port, and microSD support. Based on the preliminary user manual, it also has GPS, Wi-Fi, and an FM radio, but that could change.

Huawei, which is really known for its telecom infrastructure, has begun to make a name for itself with lower-cost devices. The U8500, however, looks a little nicer than the U8150 IDEOS. Perhaps it is the middleweight competitor between the U8150 and the upcoming U9000, also known as the IDEOS X6.

With the intense competition between Android OEMs, it would be easy for Huawei to get lost in the mix. So how do you feel about Huawei? Would you consider purchasing one of their devices, or are you still waiting to be wowed?
