I hired a Lancia whilst attending my cousins wedding last August. Whilst on holiday there I received a parking fine, but paid that before I returned home. I have just received a charge on my card on Feb 2011 (6 months later) so have disputed this with my credit card issuer.

The next day a letter arrived from Sicily By Car. It appears from the letter that they have charged me '50 + vat @ 20% for as the put it a 'handling fee and postal fee for each traffic notification received by an authority regarding the period of the hire'

It appears to be a stealth charge they impose even though the fine has been paid. I have sent them an angry email and it is up to them to provide proof that this 'handling fee' charge is legitimate, which it isn't.

My advice to all travellers thinking of using Sicily by Car is AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Dear Fellow-Victim, I am devoted to legally punish and close this company and the surrounding maffia. The charged costs on my bank card happened a few weeks ago are 770 EUROS for a fictious damage (which of course is excluded from my Damage Excess Refund which I purchased for extra 30 EUROS…).
There are good chances, that I would be able to prove without any doubt that the invoiced damage is fake, but I prefer to team up with all of the available victims, and collect and treat together all the cases. Please respond to me per my private gmail address (hooney.santha), in order to start to organise a sort of trial community.
