After starting small with a nikon D40 and working my way up to a nikon D90 with a stable of lenses, I can safely say this is a great buy. The sensor is outstanding for the price of the camera body, it delivers crisp shots in difficult light. It's not perfect but it's as close as you get in a "budget" dslr. My only complaint would be video.
Yes, with the video you have more creative options, esp. with the ability to throw the background out of focus using a lens at say f2, but it's all but useless for shooting on the go, out with friends or something of the like. For producing something like a commercial or short movie where every shot is planned and stuck to a tripod it would just get by.
However I didn't buy this cam to make movies and that's why it gets a 5/5.
