EA300 Children's Literature is a terrible module. The course materials are poorly written and confusing (e.g. the main textbook will give a summary of an essay which bears no discernible relation to the essay itself). The tutor I was assigned was unhelpful and unsupportive and refused to give me any useful feedback on my work, even when I asked outright for it.
The assignment deadlines fall only 4 days after the associated tutorials. Unlike other level 3 modules I have taken, the assignments carry equal weighting and none are substitutable, which means there is no way to recover from a single poor mark at the start of the module. As the course is a jumbled mix of literature and sociology and there is a lack of guidance on what is expected in the assignments, many people in my cohort struggled to guess what was required, which made it almost impossible to get good marks.
I would not recommend this module to anyone and, if it is indicative of wider changes within the OU, I would be wary of taking any further courses with them.

Thank you for the information about this course as it is one I was considering. Re feedback on assignments, you are entitled to have that, but in my current course, the tutor never gave any, and just put a mark, useless to know how to improve with the next assignment.

Having just completed this exact course to finish an open degree I have to say that this doesn't resemble my experience at all. The materials are well structured, the course website very helpful and the reading list available from the start of the course so you have time to read everything. The tutorials were helpful, but a long distance away from me, but the tutor was available within 48 hours of asking a query. The online student forum was particularly useful. prior to each TMA a very good break down and description of what was required was available and then supplemented by the tutor. Frankly much more like a level 2 course than a level 3!
