Microsoft has been paying sponsors to drop Google in order to bolster its own ratings. Bings moderate gains over the last year have been due to two major factors. The first one was already mentioned by paying companies to stop using Google and use their service instead, and second the rift between Facebook and Google. Which ended with again Microsoft paying Facebook to host Bing maps. Bing search is terrible, results provided rarely come as intuitive and require a large amount of refinements before anything of value is found.

I regularly use both engines and more often than not I get better results with bing. For any business to succeed against supreme competition they must invest in themselves and convince companies to switch by any means necessary. Google is still the best in many other services especially in the browser dept.
