“At the 1st renewal with the dog being only 12 months...”

At the 1st renewal with the dog being only 12 months old they doubled my premium to £814 a year, added a percentage contribution and an excess. When I rang them, they said they had improved the policy, hence the increase.

Whilst I really wanted to have a single provider through the dog's life to avoid previous illness exclusions I have been forced to change after only 12 months.

Very disappointed as I expected that the Kennel Club would have been the organisation that had a consistent and fair level of charge increases year on year.

LATEST UPDATE: Just received a letter to say that they had installed a new computer system and it incorrectly calculated the new premium (which was at 100% increase), they have apologised and the new premium is now 25% above the previous year's high end premium. This new premium is still 40% higher than my new insurer John Lewis which seem to offer a very strong policy and 10 grand a year cover.

Whilst they have offered me the option to extend my policy, which I had already cancelled I will decline this offer, luckily I didn't have a bunch of pre-conditions which would have tempted me back, and then I would have had to pay off the whole of the other new policy.

I can only assume that given a few years that their premium would have continued to increase to an unacceptable level, and I'm now glad that I had an early shock that pushed me to move now and save some money.
