Amazon are perfect for 95% of the time...the problem is when you fall into that 5% of people that have problems, they are unhelpful and do not take complaints seriously at all. A constant stream of automated email replies and no direct answers to questions, CS reps who are empathetic on the phone, then do nothing to follow up or actually help with your issue and a lack of any issue resolution.
So a mediocre company IMO, the mark of a good company is how they handle issues when things go wrong.
