yes Julian Moore.'s recommendation

Good Points

Resolution and compression stored separately for each mode.
White balance controls and pre-sets

Bad Points

Flash can be too much at short range - TTL pre-flash not quite right?
No webcam facility (AFAIK) - omission of this leads me to reduce the value for money rating, as a separate camera has to be used.

General Comments

I have a couple of Canon 35mm SLR's and a stack of lenses and accessories, so perhaps the choice of the Canon Powershot G2 for digital is not so suprising... except this is not one of those with interchangeable lenses, so it was selected entirely on it s own merit.

The G2 has been a complete delight - 4M pixel resolution (that's about 2200 x 1700) produces sharp clear images.

I've used it extensively indoors and outdoors and haven't found anything that fazes it. Colour rendition is... I was about to say "vibrant" but that's a separate option, rather, if you are a transparency user I would say that the colour rendition is more like Fujichrome (velvia, etc) than Kodachrome.

But, in addition to the camera's characteristics, the supplied software installed on my XP Pro platform first time. Upload, download and remote capture have worked without any problems... with the possible exception of the bundled Photoshop LE, but that could have been due to 3rd party plug-ins, and the problems have been no worse than with any other application.

When deciding my purchase, I was initially in favour of the Minolta's, but the slightly better form factor, my experience with Canon and - at my retailer - a better deal made the deal, ensured the Powershot G2 won the day.

When I embark on a little astrophotography the ability to download RAW (unprocessed) CCD will be a boon...

No regrets at all and nothing but a "buy" recommendation for those who can afford it.

Respect given for Julian Moore.'s review.
