Baggage handlers broke into a padlocked bag that I had checked in.
They stole a camera (and the memories captured in the photos on it).
Virgin have refused to compenstae me in any way adn have not even undertakenb to investigate. Apparently checked baggage is not safe in their hands.
I am very disappointed with an airline I have spent a great deal with to date.
For the sake of not even offering a fraction of the camera's value they have ruined their reputation with me.
I had been warned about South Africa crime rates before going - in fact a couple of guys did try to threaten/beg from me - and were told exactly where to go!
As soon as I enrtusted anything to Virgin I was robbed behind my back.
Well done Virgin - and goodbye

Putting items THAT valuable in hold luggage!! Very Foolish!!

Baggage handlers like all of us have to clear security to get out of the planes so would be a major security breach if they had bold cutters or other such equipment on them.
The only people approved to have such equipment and likely to know a valuable camera was in your bag was the airport security staff. Maybe you should contact the South African airport operator, rather than having a pop at the airline for your mistake.
