Ahh the trusted name of Weihrauch, again and again their rifles / pistols never cease to please.
I picked up a HW35 mine was 2nd hand (may have been 3-6th for all I know) and was very happy with the £40 bargain price tag. Although this was for just the gun with the factory set barrel and end action iron sights. No fear as a swiftly mounted 11mm dovetail scope was added in no time and being a 3-9x32 scope would provide plenty of magnification for this gun.
First impressions as with all the weihrauch family is its heavy beast, you certainly know you have a rifle in your hands, personally I like the weight, Seriously think about acquiring a rifle sling if you're planning on doing a few hours out in the field hunting small quarry.
I took mine home and put a few AA Field Diablo's at 16 grains over the crombro which came back as a disappointing 7.51Flbs!! however having dealt with many used air rifles I'm used to them being oiled / greased and diseled up and the majority of the time a full strip down, clean and service are all they require.
This was the case with the HW35 too. After stripping it down in record time, I must confess that this is the easiest rifle to Strip. A little care is required for when you remove the spring as it's under pressure slightly; however it's not as bad as you may think.
After stripping away what could possible be years of gunk from the piston seal and shaft, cleaning the spring and adding a nylon top hat, power band and spring guide washer I re-assembled the rifle (using the original spring) and gave it a once over to remove any wayward grease, oil, whatever leaving the rifle clean. Be careful when replacing the rekord trigger unit, it needs to be cocked before being re-inserted or you'll be there all day trying to get it back together.
Once done fired the same AA Fields over the Crombro, well lucky for me I am F.A.C as the first three came back as 17.45flbs!! However after the 5th pellet had been passed through it settled down to a steady 11.40flbs well within the legal requirement.
Then took the rifle out into my 100ft garden and zeroed it in. WOW what a lovely rifle to shot, sure it's heavy and she's got a bit of a kick to it with the recoil, but it's a Springer and it's what you expect.
The HW35 is a noisy beast with plenty of kick, and a sound moderator will quiet it down slightly, but you're always going to have the thwack of the spring close to your ear unless you shoot from the hip.
The HW35 is a great rifle whether you're just starting out, or a seasoned shooter, I would recommend picking up one of these if you can find one 2nd hand in good nick, and don't ever let it go.
