Simon Witter.'s review of ebuyer www.ebuyer.com

“I recently wanted to return a purchase to...”

★☆☆☆☆

Good Points
Excellent pricing policy...but (see bad points)!

Bad Points
If things go wrong you a) can't get in touch with them b) their returns policy is designed to make it as difficult as possible for you to get a satisfactory result.

General Comments
I recently wanted to return a purchase to www.ebuyer.com that was unsatisfactory. So I call the customer support number. I was directed to use the "returns online" function of the web site. This does not take into account items that are not actually faulty, after all you can't tell when buying online if a product is any good. So I retry the phone number. Eventually I get "you are in a queue, there are x number of calls ahead of you" (just substitute x with the largest number you can think of times ten). When I finally get through I'm told I have to send the item back to the PO Box number, OK if its a memory stick but not when its a 25Kg 19" monitor. So I send it back at my expense (£30) and they tell me the packaging is all damaged and I have to pay an extra £46 restocking fee. How do I get the monitor out of the box without damaging the packaging?

Very disappointed and won't be using ebuyer.com again. I would not recommend them to any of my friends.

I sympathise completely with your experience. I recently had my criticism published in Internet Advisor and Ebuyer's response, which was published in the article, may surprise you as much as it did me! I quote:
<br>
<br>"Ebuyer usually collects the incorrectly supplied item or offers to reimburse the postage cost upon receipt of the goods and a bill of postage"
<br>
<br>This is either a lie or its Ebuyer's best kept secret! I now shop around and on every occasion, so far, I have found somewhere cheaper for everything I have bought and have received excellent service. Each time I've also had the added satisfaction of knowing that Ebuyer have missed out on another sale.

Six months on from my initial dissapointment with ebuyer I was begining to mellow and even consider using them again. (They did eventually give me a full refund but only after I threatened legal action). Your post has re-galvanised my feelings and reassured me that mine wasn't an isolated incident.

I`m sorry but Ebuyer is a farce of a company who is using whatever illegal means it can to rip people off plain and simple. They have no customer service, they sell products incorrectly advertised and their returns service is a sham. I`m currently going through legal channels and hope to see them in court this year myself.

<br>I wouldn`t recommend anyone uses them.

Sorry mate but i have to disagree with mmost of what you say about this company. I mean firstly lets take your idea of not being able to tell if a product bought online is any good or not. Well try reading reviews about the product, go to the manufacturers website i recently bought a monitor from e-buyer didn't know anything about the monitor so i looked at the manufacuters website to make sure it did what i wanted it to do, then checked reviews on it.
<br>
<br>Next you say that when sending something back they don't cater for products that aren't faulty. Sorry but you are wrong they have 5 or 6 options one of which is ITEM NOT REQUIRED
<br>
<br>You then complain that you have to pay the cost of postage back well excuse me do you really think that they are going to pay for you to send an item back just because you don't want it, i don't think so also you complain about a charge for re-stocking well i believe this is standard and they can't re-sell the item as new because it has been opened also i find your ideas that a company should take back a product that you bought because you don't like ridiculous can you see one of the major high street shops refunding the full value of the product because you say you don't like it. I don't, maybe because it's an internet company and you don't speak to them face to face you think you can get away with anything.
<br>
<br>I do agree that you can sometimes have to wait a while when you phone them but at least they do tell you how many people are queued ahead of you.
<br>
<br>As for Mr Angry's comment yes i believe that they will pick up or refund the cost of posting for items incorrectly supplied, but this is when ebuyer may send the wrong item to a customer then yes they will collect or refund the cost of postage. As for finding every item that he wants cheaper else where then we only have his word for that and at least i have the knowledge that he is the one losing out on good prices as i can find some items cheaper but certainly not all cheaper than e-buyer
