“Having been to Butlins (Minehead) and Pontins (Breen),...”

Having been to Butlins (Minehead) and Pontins (Breen), I was impressed with Skegness. It must have been rebuilt since I was a kid. It was well laid out, with the ability to park near to the challets with plenty of trolleys. The location of the main pavillion was also close to the accomodation (unlike Minehead). The beach was conveniently located too. The facilities on site was very good, and although the pool could have catered for toddlers better, and the changing rooms with their strange go in the room one way exit the other end, resulting in what seems no free cubicles, was really well kitted out, with lots of slides for older children.

The evening entertainment was good, although we only sampled the pub food once that was reasonably priced with good service.

The accomodation was basic as expected, but better than Minehead. My only complaint was the sofas needed the pillows from the bedroom to make them conforable, and there was no oven gloves, only a tea towel provided. So if you're going to use the oven for grilling or baking, bring some.

Remember they provide linen but not towels, not even a bath mat despite their saftey warning the tiled bathroom is slippy when wet.

There was plenty to do on site, most of the rides were free, shame the bouncy castle wasn't.

It's a 15 min walk to the tat side of Skegness, Fantasy island, good if you want a cheap pub meal if nothing else and a Spa which is cheaper than the onsite shop.

Skegness Town is a 3 mile drive away, or you can get a red cab (5 people is less than the bus). That was nice, if you want fish and chips you're in luck, every other shop sells it. Cheapest icecream ever by the pier 50p 99 cornet! The seal sanctury, north end of the beach is worth a visit too, under 3's a free.

We really enjoyed it, esp as we got it for a quarter of the price through the sun holidays.

The only other negative is you can get there earlier but as they're physical keys, rather than electric keys like you have at Minehead, this means you have to queue at 4pm (unless you have the silver apartment). Minehead you can get your key when you like, no queues, but just can't unpack until 4pm. It's a minor negative to be honest, the holiday was fun and great value for money.

Given the choice I'd go back to Skegness again for this type of holiday.
