General Comments

Got my Alcatel One Touch 511 mobile phone in december 2001 so it's been tested quite well. I've chosen it very carefully from all the competition, and it rises to the expectations - generally. Very good value for money because it's so light & small (actually the smallest when released) and it's packed with functions: WAP (quite agile), voice dialling (huge 50 numbers database but sometimes gets confused), voice memo (convertible to ringtones - clever), poliphonic sound (actually a little better than the Sony J-series), really entertaining arcade-style games, great number of pre-loaded pictures & animations, strong vibrations (it will move inches on a table!). Also a quality finish, with real aluminium finish (feels cold on a frosty day). On the other hand, i'm a bit disappointed with the menus which are slow, especially in the Directory (quite frustrating at times). The lack of internal memory for the address book is a shame, later improved with the new Alcatel 512 (same phone, but with 250 # memory and blue light). Also, the DriveKey is sometimes unreliable because the contact points are not precise and it may even jam. Nevertheless a very spectacular and entertaining phone for young users.
