small and light
inferior build quality
poor selection of ring tones
Bought the Alcatel One Touch 511 mobile phone to replace an older Motorola that found its way into the washing machine. At about £130, it was one of the least expensive 'contract free' phones I could find that wasn't the size of a house-brick.
The reception has so far been about the same as my last phone - something I had concerns about. It's bad enough being on One2One in the first place let alone on a phone without an obvious aerial.
All the usual features are present - phone book, text messaging and a voicemail button as well as the kind of extras I don't want to pay extra for, such as unplayable games, voice-memo recording, and ridiculous polyphonic 'ring tones' .
Seriously, there is only one sound in the whole batch that even resembles a telephone ringing. The rest are a bizarre mix of sound effects and distorted musings quite unsuitable to herald a phone call anywhere except in private or in the company of very close and non-judgmental friends.
Finally a note to the reviewer who stoically maintains that the case is made of aluminium in the face of descriptions of the case as being made of plastic.
I think I can put this one to rest: the front panel may well be aluminium - it's silvery at least. The back panel is not made of aluminium - I know plastic painted silver when I see it. Anyway, it doesn't really matter what the phone's made of, I doubt very much that it will survive the casual 'falls from pockets onto pavements' that all the other phones I've ever owned have. It looks really cheap up close. Very plastic, not very robust. We'll see.
