General Comments

In New York Metropolitan area a few cable companies are providing DSL and Cable Modem. I have tried two companies and can definitely recommend one of them over the other. Earthlink broadband and Time Warner Broadband and cable television, both are serviced by Time Warner, however the quality of customer care and service one receives from Earthlink is a hundred times more efficient, concise, clear and polite than that of Time Warner.
The average wait time for a Customer Service :
Time Warner: Between half an hour to an hour and half/
Earthlink: Less than five minutes.

Other problems I have encountered with Time Warner is they make appointments, yes plural-three appointments, and do not show up.
Customer service is like walking into a lions den, they hang up on you, they scream at you and they misrepresent information just to get you to sign up, or to pass off the company's responsibility onto the consumer.
I had called them three times for them to pick up my cable box and had set aside three days to wait for the technician, because the appointments are in blocks of four hours. No one came, when I called, instead of apologizing for their lack of efficient business practices, not to mention the wait time was an hour long and my phone ran out of batteries, they put the call down as customer called to cancel. In effect they were shifting the blame over to the customers. So now they are charging me 36 dollars for basic service, when I don't even have reception, because I still have their cable box, which they did not come pick up despite three attempts by the consumer. They also raise their prices fairly regularly.
Earthlink however, has wonderful courteous and efficient customer service. They do not transfer your calls from place to place and if there is a problem they often walk you through the procedures of setting up and configuration.
