“Bought the bike used, eventually took it out for...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 03/05/2010

Bought the bike used, eventually took it out for several long runs, approx 120 miles each run, then the engine seized. I took the engine apart to find the big end connecting rod had worn, about eighth of inch play in it. When i was costing the new parts I discovered it was cheaper to buy a new engine from an online auction Co, they send a new engine, new carb, new belt already on the engine, new CVT clutches and new engine management systems. It was a simple install, only had to replace the stator with my old engine stator because the wiring was different. But now this engine has seized and I always changed the oil monthly. Air forced cooling on a four stroke engine is not that good, four strokes run hotter than two stroke engines, and if you've got a four stroke engine it needs to be liquid cooled. It tends to eat spark plugs, boils the oil, overheats the engine. The exhaust silencer tends to perish with heat. The battery needs to be regularly float maintained otherwise you'll be buying a new battery every nine months. The plastics crack from vibration around the mirrors. Am about ready to throw it in the dumpster and get an Italian or Japanese scooter.
