We tried to sell our flat through Winkworth. Despite the property being on since January and being very reasonably priced for our area they failed to sell it. However, I'm not surprised considering their more than inadequate sales approach.
A number of different Winkworth agents would show people around the property. two of them didn't know that we had a share of the freehold, which was one of the main selling points of our property. One of them knew little about the area and was unable to answer basic questions about the local facilities. Another, well, what can we say about him. he told one viewer that our obviously brand new wooden floors were an original feature of the propery and that our obviously years old bathroom was just 6 months old. He also failed to give us warning of a viewing one early saturday morning and on finding us in bed still let viewers look in the room. We were surprised to say the least!
Apparently we've had two offers but I'm dubious as to how genuine they were. Both were for the same amount which was a lot, lot less than the asking price. On one occasion Winkworth told me the manager was negotiating on the price. When I contacted the manager to get an update she didn't know anything about it.
The final straw came when we arrived home from work to find a bottle of wine missing from our kitchen. We'd had a viewing during the day. Whether it was the Winkworth agent or a viewer who took it we'll never know but what we do know is that we'll never trust Winkworth again. I suggest that you don't either.
