Unlike most 'baby monitors' this is actually a highly sensitive pressure pad that lays under your babies cot mattress (so they can't feel it in any way) and through clever electronics it monitors whether your baby is breathing or not.
Cot death has been so well publicised over the years that every parent, particularly new parent, is concerned about their baby getting into difficulties in the night when they're not being watched.
This is where the BabySense II monitor comes in. If you're baby stops breathing the pressure pads under the mattress pick this up and sound a VERY loud alarm alerting you to the problem.
We know ours works, as occasionally we forget its on and pick the baby up out of the cot. A few seconds later the alarm goes off as it can no longer detect breathing.
For me its one of those products that really puts your mind at ease and allows you to relax once the baby has been put to bed - so for that it was worth the £60-£70 we paid for it easily.
The only negative thing I would say about it is that the first few months are the period where you're most anxious as a new parent - and I could not figure out a way to install this product into the babies moses basket (which we used for the first 3-4 months). This is a real shame as it would have been great to have the monitor on from day one.
That said, once the baby is in their cot its an invaluable piece of kit for me. Definitely recommend. Very simple to set up and use too which is a bonus.
