“I've been an Amex card holder since 92, starting with...”

Written on: 27/04/2010

I've been an Amex card holder since 92, starting with gold, then platinum followed by charter membership of the centurion card around 10 years ago. At that time, with a cost of £650, it was expensive but acceptable, and the concierge tried their best to help.

Recently however this has gone so far downhill, it's below ground. Imagine my surprise when a snide Amex account manager, clearly trying to remain polite with me as he was being recorded, explained to me that my unapproved limit was only £800, less than half of the £1800 fee! I hadn't travelled in several months and at the height of the credit crisis Amex had decreased my limit. Shocking for a 'premier' card.

Try asking for a travel pack.... 10 years ago, no problem it would be in the post immediately. Now the reps aren't even aware what it is, and it's certainly not possible to get one. Why not?

Amex have managed 3/10 on marketing as most people don't even recognize the card, and 0/10 on value.

Shame on you American Express.

I'll certainly either be downgrading or throwing in the card completely.

By the way, if anyone from Amex is reading.... do you really think telling people that if they need to ask how much the card costs that they can't afford it? Treating your customers as stupid isn't going help your brand.
