My tickect was JFK-Rome via MAdrid, but we left JFK with 4 hours delay and in Madrid I missed the connecting flight to Rome. The rebooked me for the evening next day. They give me hotel accomodation in Madrid but my arrived in Rome 36 hours later than expected! I filed a claim at Air EUropa Counter in Madrid Aiport but after 4 months I haven't heard back from the customer service.
