DnT.'s Review of RCA RC5215P
2nd Mar 2002
Overall Rating
- Value for money

My wife recently purchased one these units for me for Christmas. And, as above, nothing but problems. What a disappointment to load the first brand new DVD into the unit and an "Incompatible Disc Error Message" comes up. We called the service tech via a 1-800 number. Went through the hoops and was given an SR#. We sent the package off to Ontario, Canada. Thomson Multimedia Distribution Center. They in turn sent us a refurbished unit. Well, the word "Refurbished" should have have warned me. This unit played 2 DVD's, and then... nothing. It locked up when you started the machine, and the only way to fix it was to unplug the damn thing, and restart it!
If a company such as RCA/Thomson is going to sell a product like a DVD player, THEN MAKE SURE IT PLAYS DVD'S! ALL DVD'S!!
For every message at this review board, there are probably 1000 units returned with similar problems.
We are sending this unit back again, and I will update this as soon as we have results. Our warranty -90-days- expires on March 8 2002.
My Prediction? These idiots will send us another piece of junk that somebody else returned that won't work! And then when we return THAT unit, they are going to ask for cash near to, or equal to, what we paid for it to cover "Labour". When in all likelyhood, no-one has even looked at the unit! (No, I have no intent of forking over money for a defective product!)
That's a pretty slick ripoff campaign. "Let's put out a bad product with limited warranty, then, charge near or equal amounts to have it "fixed". Let's see how many stupid people are out there!! The whole arrangment is set up that way. It's criminal!
The shame of it all is that we have an RCA TV and an RCA VHS unit. They work fine! WHAT"S THE PROBLEM WITH THE DVD PLAYERS!!??
RECALL THIS PRODUCT RCA/THOMSON or RETURN OUR MONEY!!
