Masters.'s review of Honda Civic SIR

★★★★★

“I am thinking about trading in my 2000 Honda Civic SI...”

Written on: 28/02/2002 by Masters.

Good Points
Engine is awesome on the freeway or anywhere else you can open it up. Handles nicely in the city and on highway.

Bad Points
Little sounds all over interior. Nothing a volume adjustment on your stereo can't handle. Horrible off the line.

General Comments
I am thinking about trading in my 2000 Honda Civic SI for a 2001 Acura Integra type R. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

If you read the review that I had on the Si, you will see that I agree the low end torque off the line is insufficient but when the V-tec kicks in, it's very responsive. But in reply to you considering a change to a Integra Type-R: The Integra Type-R is a quick car. 195hp, and I believe 155 torque. But if you like the civic Si, for less than it would cost you to buy the integra, you can do some engine mods to the civic and get better results, because the car weighs less than the integra. A turbo-charger and a Comp-Tech catback exhaust would increase your horsepower and low end torque. And probably for less than what you would pay for the integra. And because the civic weighs less, it would definitly be quicker. If you want any more ideas, just reply to this message. Good luck!!!

To Masters: Another way to increase your output of the Si engine would be to increase your engine compresion to that of the Integra type R, which I believe is 12:1. Or, you could shorten your gear ratios, which would give your car more low end torque and would change the powerband of your civic to allow you to reach max torque and horsepower at lower rpm's. If you're not sure how to do these mods or what exactly is involved, just check with your local Honda dealer and with a local shop that does import modifications. But these two items would definitly help and would be considerably cheaper than a supercharger or turbo install. Respond if you have any other questions.

Masters.... I replied to your e-mail inquiring about modifications and how to go about them. I responded to all of your questions and I hope they give you all your answers. I mistakenly responded to your questions on my review site. So, if you go to the honda Sir site and read my review, you will see all the info I meant to pass on to you. Good luck!!!!

Although the Integra Type R is dam fast...I've taken my SIR and removed the AC unit and plumbing and removed all the insulation i can find and I'm neck and neck with a buddy that has a 99 Type R with racing pullys, cold air and headers......The only thing about the Type R thats better is the motor.....you can always do weight reduction to you're SIR and still have the same weight to power ratio that the Type R has.....plus..the SIR will still be on you're driveway in the morning.
