Oh dear, I have just read these reviews of Woolwich Mortgages from Barclays and realise that my experience is not unique or just a reflection of recent activity. Online calculator worked out my repayments, when I applied the calculations of repayments by Woolwich were higher despite using same rate as online calculator, and I am experiencing terrible delays in getting my mortgage processed, as at first everything was agreed (when I signed up to the £150 drop out fee), but now I keep getting asked for more and more information - gone on for three months now and appears no point in complaining as this will delay it further. I keep being told 5 more working days for a decission. Wish I had never applied to them. They must be aware that the poor service is causing people to quit with them and go else where, as they charge you £150 if you pull out once application is in progress. I used to work in this profession in the 1990's, when I would grant people's mortgages when they applied in the branch after assessing their case. I would listen and take account of personal circumstances with some flexibility. Woolwich is all that is bad about centralised lending - critera scoring, no flexibility in decisions, and no continuty on the case by the lender. Barclays should be ashamed for allowing this to continue in its current form. Exploitation of cheap labour using Indian people who are overloaded with workloads, probably very poorly paid working excessive hours (I've seen Slum Dog Millionaire) resulting the worst customer service I have every had the mis-fortune to receive. What happend to Customer Relationship Management - not enough money in it Barclays???
