General Comments

This Panasonic RX ED77 portable CD player has a single cd, tuner and twin tape decs. The features include tape edit, synchronized CD record, sound virtualizer, preset eq, twin play timers, record timer, clock, memory, and alarm.

The motorized screen / control pannel is very cool and features a deep yellow backlight. This can be raised / lowered via the standard remote. As well as the screen it houses controls for the advanced settings.

The system goes very loud and can be heard from quite far away. There is the feature to adjust the volume before the unit is switched up, useful if is late and you have been listening to loud music earlier on.

The sound is very clear and is equal to that of the powerful seperates system in my house.

The bad points are limited to the bass on the system. Although experimentation with the preset eq's can produce some vibration, it is not powerful at all but acceptable on a portable system.

It is unfortunate that this system is not made anymore, and Panasonic have replaced it with a far cheaper and more featureless unit, copying only the motorized folding pannel.

If you see one the these advertised secondhand for around £70 or less, my advice is to buy it. It is the perfect compromise between a personal CD player with speakers, and a 500 watt Hi Fi.

How can a tiny thing like that compare with seperates!! Sound quality is nowhere near a decent seperates system, and bass or depth will not touch on it.
Now, you are asking how I know this. I have heard one of these in action, and I admit it is very good for a portable, but you cannot compare to seperates.
