New Moon was disappointing compared to Twilight. The screenplay could have added a bit more. There was a lack of explanation throughtout most of the film as well as a lack of connection to the not-so-romance of Bella and Jacob. There was much more to the story and character's emotions that should have been added.
I believe Chris Weitz was not the right director for this movie. Hardwicke did a better job in connecting the first movie to its audience and attracting people who were not even Twilight fans at the time, such as me. Weitz was too straight-forward and disconnected to the actual book.
The acting was ok given the scenes the actors were provided. It seemed as if the screenplay was holding them back because their lines were so weak.
The music was terrific. However, I felt Weitz could have chosen more relevant songs to match the scenes. The music sometimes did not go with the scene and I don't know how that didn't work given the music provided.
New Moon is definitely worth watching for hardcore Twilight fans, but not worth watching for the first movie fans nor the casual movie-goer.
