Well, in fairness this all happened a couple of years ago, we took my 80 year old mother into Harveys at Silverlink, North Shields to buy a new dining suite inc Glass display dresser, dining table with 4 chairs and 2 carvers.

I won't go into great detail as being awhile ago, I would not wish to try to be specific after so long. Cost was in the region of £2700
After being ordered and paid for in full, after 8 weeks they arrived, 1 carver missing, 1 chair damaged, Table centre leaf missing, wrong dresser top which was too small for the bottom.

Fair enough, couple months later replacements arrived,, this time dresser top was damaged and lights not working, no replacement chairs.
After a further 3 months with no replacements, I took my mother into Harveys to see the manager, who made it quite clear we were a hassle to deal with and was quite happy to have a stand up row with me in the middle of a busy store. Huge difference to the butt kissing we recieved when buying initially.

All we wanted was some reassurance for my mother, who is infirm on her legs and was not even offered a seat. When I pointed this out, he looked at her and said 'well sit down if you want to, I'm not stopping you.' This charm was followed up with, 'I don't deliver the stuff, what do you want me to do about it? You can have a refund if you want.'
During this period I had managed to get the phone number for their warehouse (shipping depot). A chat with their storeman revealed that they hold no stocks themselves, ordering goods 'to order' as it is sold. Any shortfalls or damages are out of their hands. So basically, Harveys are glorified dropshippers it seems. If anything goes wrong, it's pointless calling them as there's nothing they can do anyway to hurry anything along in whatever 3rd world country is supplying them at the time. (from memory, ours turned out to be from malaysia).

Eventually, we contacted trading standards who advised us to take the refund on offer, as they had more than a few issues ongoing with Harveys already.
It's really the 'screw you, tough luck' attitude that bugged me the most. Mind you, these guys have been on bbc watchdog more than once now, It's just a shame that we, the british public seem to so readily accept shabby service nowadays.

So, after almost a year, we accepted a full refund and ordered better furniture for less cost via a small private company we found on the net. It was delivered in perfect order in the time promised.
I wouldn't go back into Harveys if they were giving the stuff away.
