After helping a friend without Internet access order a laptop from Amazon, I was fearful when I subsequently realised it was to be delivered by HDNL and I saw the widespread awful reviews they have. However, in this case the delivery could not have been better. The tracking system correctly showed progress and the parcel was delivered at the first attempt today, ahead of Amazon's original estimated delivery date. Not 10 minutes after the parcel had been delivered, I saw this recorded via Amazon and phoned my friend. His laptop had just arrived.
My friend's address is an awkward one - house name, no number, a small private road, and the official postal area of Lympstone seems odd when the road is actually on the edge of nearby Exmouth - so plenty opportunity for a foul-up.
From what I've read online, it may be that the HDNL's problems are down to rogue drivers in some of their depots and that some - possibly the majority - of their drivers are fine. If that's so, I can only say that their driver today from the Newton Abbot depot was exemplary. However, because of the large number of people who clearly have had things go seriously wrong, I will still be holding my breath if I find out HDNL are delivering anything of mine and would not feel confident enough to recommend them to anyone at this stage.
