The booking was made on the internet. We ended up with Locauto at Treviso.

We were allocated a Chevrolet Aveo - inside was cleanish but not sparkling and the outside was very dusty so it had obviously sat in the park a long time. It was petrol, rather than diesel (petrol is dearer than diesel in Italy), with a very small boot and was very basic. We thought we were getting a Fiat Punto so were disappointed, but accept the Aveo is in the same group.

As usual a credit card imprint was taken but unusually a charge of 750 euros was made which was refunded later. We did not know this would happen. BEWARE, EXCHANGE RATE DIFFFERENTIALS CAN ADD A LOT TO THE COST OF THE HIRE.

When I queried the practice of actually charging and refunding I was told by Carhire 3000 that it is better to make a 'phone booking and ask whether this is standard practice as not all rental companies do this. We have hired a lot of cars over the last 25 years and have never had this before.

Carhire 3000 was helpful but booking through them was a false economy both with the supplier they used and the total price. (I am following up the exchange differential with our credit card company).
