A sales rep from Anglian visited me last July to give me a quote for replacement windows. I explained to him that I am due to relocate because of my job and I only wished for a quote at the moment because I was undecided at the time whether to renovate the house before selling or to sell it as is. After measuring up he calculated a price and told me that, to secure the price, I should sign a contract and, since it was to be arranged with a 6 month delay to execution to allow me time to make up my mind, I would be able to rely upon a right to cancel (with forfeit of a small deposit) during that period. I made him write and sign an endorsement to that effect on the contract and then felt comfortable with signing it.
I have now found a buyer for the house who wants to purchase it as is, and I therefore do not need the replacement windows. I have contacted Anglian to tell them as much and, lo and behold, they claim to have put my order into production and want me to pay 70% of the contract price as compensation, referring me to the terms and conditions in the small print on the reverse of the contract. This is as clear a case of miss-selling as I can imagine and is the type of practice that brings the double-glazing industry as a whole into disrepute.
In summary, these people at Anglian are hard-sell scammers and I would recommend not to touch them with a bargepole.
