I booked car rental for 3 days through car trawler.

My paperwork to bring to the desk on Thursday night (about 12.15am), suggested I would be paying '55.80. I had no reason to think this wasn't true. Especially as the woman on the desk made no comment on this and simply handed me a pink sheet of paper and asked for me to initial and sign certain sections. It was my responsibility to check the amount on the paper, but I didn't, I would have expected the woman on the desk to actually bring any extras to my attention.

I can only assume that she was keen to get home and so didn't want to have a discussion about these? So when I returned home to see my final bill being '144.60 I was rather upset!

Additional costs charged:

'54.32 for a full tank of fuel
'20 for arriving at the desk after 12 midnight (No indication of this charge given)
'6 for third party insurance (No indication of this given)

My main complaint is that these costs were not communicated to me at all, that's just really bad service and probably against the law? Also I certainly didn't need insurance as I'd already purchased SWCD (or whatever it's called) so was fully covered.

Lastly, 353's policy of paying for a full tank of fuel is ridiculous and is for no other reason than to make extra cash out of your customers - this is not a wise way to do business! After complaining about this at the airport, my fuel costs were returned - as were the customer behind me in the queue's costs.

Why don't they just remove this policy if it causes your customer services such grief? The company doesn't value it's customers at all and is just interested in ripping them off, so I won't be using 353 Car Rental again.

For anyone looking for decent car rental companies I recommend Eurocar who are up-front about costs and only charge for the fuel you use.
