My parents have a patterdale - 11 years old now and grew up with my son of the same age, they are like best buddies. As soon as we arrive at the house the dog grabs his toys and off they go in the garden. Dog loves to play but doesn't know when to stop. Good watch in the house when door rings. He has very good sense of smell and won't allow post/newspapers through the door unless it comes in with my parents and that goes for parcels as well. I took delivery of some beer once and the delivery man left it in the hall untouched with any of our scent and he attacked the whole lot and punctured the cans. He also hates white vans for some reason, goes mad in the car, he has a cage in the car that has to be covered just in case a white van or lorry passes. On the whole a fun dog that likes to follow you round and is intellegent. You just have to get used to his ways (like a child).
