Booked and prepaid on line, 6 months before holiday.
Office very very busy and only one girl on the desk. She DID speak really good English, so i was relaxed and thought it would all go without a hitch.
We'd taken only MY credit card to France - but car booked in husband's name- Europcar asked for my license details as well, and said that then the credit card/driver difference wouldn't matter. She then asked me to sign "here, here and here" - so I did!! VERY VERY BAD. I feel I was tricked into initialling against:- "I agree to be charged for the serenity package". This has cost us £240 extra on the credit card when we got home. Who would know what a "Serenity package" involved?? Beware what you are signing!

    I write with the gift of hindsight, after having had "the business" done on myself by Europcar, this happened even though I do have over 25 years car rental experience hiring vehicles for business and pleasure around the globe.
    I would advise anyone who is so foolish as to rent from this company after reading so many negative reviews to check the vehicle and note EVERY single defect to the bodywork, interior and mechanicals before signing the hire agreement as you will be charged an excessive amount by Europcar for any repairs.
    Always book and pay by credit card, do not give Europcar access to your bank account or deal with them in cash.
    Do not authorise to Europcar a security deposit via your credit card, they will charge your card contrary to what they tell you at the desk or what is stated in their contract terms.
    Always insist on a printed final invoice at termination of hire before you leave their depot, do not accept to receive this at a later date from their head office.
    Do not initial anything on the hire agreement that you do not understand.
    Under no circumstances return the vehicle other than with a full tank of fuel.
