We used 1and1 as our hosting company for many years. It is cheap and not-cheerful.
If you are considering hosting with 1and1 then you definitely want to look elsewhere.
They cut off all of our client websites because of an expired credit card (these things happen) and couldn't restore the account for a whole week!
They regularly change things on the servers. I have lost count of the amount of times I have been phoned on holiday because client sites have suddenly stopped working.. and who's to blame?? You guessed it.. 1 and 1.
The customer service is by far the worst of almost any company I have ever encountered. Regular downtime and horrendous support make this a no go for anyone requiring a reliable and professional service.
Don't do it to yourself if you value your sanity and would like to keep your blood pressure low!
