The design of the kitchen did not fit the kitchen. Homebase did all they could to wriggle out of the fact that their disign was at fault. first blaming our measurments ( which they checked twice) and found to be perfect. They then tried to place blame on the fitter who whilst agreed the fitting was not the best put this down to the poor design which he had tried to make fit. during one of my visits to the store in St Austell I met a woman who was irate for the same reason that her kitchen did not fit. Homebase dragged this out not answereing my calls or letters. eventually they came to my house (the manager, recently employed new fitter and installations manager. after much ado they made some suggestions to alter the kitchen. 1. make the drawer unit smaller take out some side panels ect. I pointed out that these alterations indicated that they had indeed given me a design that did not fit. they still refused to admit responsibility. but offered to put down my flooring and tile the walls and also provide me with a folding door as my door into the kitchen was now not able to open fully due to units. I agreed to this and was told the fitter would contact me in the next few days. Happy that at last I would at least have a finished kitchen although not exactly what I had orrginally planned. I waited and waited and waited not days but weeks and weeks( I am a very patient person!) and then the phone call hooray,oops Hello this is Homebase just to let you know your kitchen parts are now in store awaiting your collection!!!!!!! tried to explain to the very confused woman that I was in fact expecting a call from their fitter she assured me that a note would be bput on the managers desk about this matter. waited more weeks, had enough decided to go the legal route.
THREE YEARS later living with a half finished kitchen, having done everything Homebase has asked of me ie. had kitchen surveyed got quote from another fitter to make good. numerouse visitssss from Homebase managers. They have the cheek to offer me the amount a fitter wants to alter the kitchen to fit. plus £100 yes £100 for three years of stress and hassel, and now the added mess of having work done thats if I can find a fitter willing to correct their mistake. I requested that they should have their fitter do the corrective work they refuse to do this,
Why? perhaps it is because it is the easier opption for them to wash their hands of this their mess up. It is also the cheaper option for them rather than have to pay their own fitter who would then not be able to work on any new kitchen instalation untill mine was completed.
