I used to work for the Trustee Savings Banks. Years, and years, ago they, in conjuction with Olivetti, introduced the first computer-on-line-real-time banking system in this country. Customers could pay in at any branch and the amount was IMMEDIATELY credited to their accoun their account. Solicitors could transfer funds between them at the "speed of light".
Banking has gone backwards and "faster=payments" are a farce. It works sometimes BUT why is the service not on-line. Poor dears that one has to speak to by `phone. They say it (the payment) will be with the other account in 2/3hrs. NONSENSE! they KNOW that when they press the button the funds transfer immediately! Why do they lie to us?
