POF is pretty rough for guys. The most common complaint from guys I hear and agree with is: women on the site seem to believe they are a couple of notches above what they really are. It's pretty challenging to meet women at the same level I would in normal life. I have NOT experienced this problem with paid dating sites ... but I only used one for a short period.

To do well on POF a guy needs to be in at least the top 30% of guys by preferable in the top 20%. I am pretty close to that still, but hair loss is catching up so I am losing a bit of the edge now.

The other problem is very few women search male profiles and the women I am interested in certainly don't ... so you're forced to line up in a womens email queue ... they have too many messages for that to be effective.

I wouldn't recommend POF to guys looking for long term potentials. However, if you're "good enough" to be able to date down and still be happy with that women ... it can be a fun place to play.

The site itself is indeed however a players dream come true, as most women are looking to date out of their league and that says TARGET to even the amateur players.

To be fair to women however, there are indeed a lot of guys that are married, have girlfriends, embellished profiles, fakes profiles, etc. All the standard tricks. Women are likely just choosing the best of the bunch. It's very hard for guys to compete against imaginary guys, as they will always be better and women will always keep falling for it.

All these problems, in total, turn POF into little more than an intimate encounter site. You have a bunch of niceties wrapped around it, but POF is most certainly just a site where a small fairly static pool of people jeep switching of short term relations with each other. If you're near the top 30% of guys on the site, you can get into that game if you want. Not sure why any guy would want that to be honest, but to each his own. I know a few guys that use POF when they are stuck in a dry spell. They consider it a free public service for them.
