I bought my 1.25 LX Ford Fiesta in 1999 - it was nearly new at the time with around 3,000 miles on the clock.

I've only recently sold it and the reason for selling was simply that we have a baby on the way and felt that we'd need a car with a bit more boot space (pushchairs take up an incredible amount of room). I was sad to see the Fiesta go - it had been an incredibly good car for me over a 10 year period.

Pros: Nippy around town; reliable; cheap spare parts
Cons: It's obviously a small car, but then I knew that when I bought it. As you might expect, slightly limited in terms of boot space and leg room for passengers in the rear seats.
