An AEG Fridge freezer was ordered from AOL on 31st August and delivered 4 days later. The external cardboard packaging was removed by the delivery men leaving some blue adhesive tape on the freezer and fridge compartment doors. The delivery note was duly signed and the delivery men left. On removal of the protective tape is became apparent that the freezer door hinges and top of the cabinet were badly damaged and the door was effectively being held in place by the tape. AOL's Customer Service Dept were notified but the response was that by signing the delivery note I had accepted the appliance in perfect condition and AOL no longer had any responsibility to either replace the appliance or make good the damage. The company maintained this stance until a letter was sent to them, based on a template from the Office of Fair Trading's website, advising AOL of it's responsibity under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended). After some attempts at delaying the inevitable the appliance was replaced.
