I initially took out this Asda card as it had a decent bonus scheme - including money off petrol, free delivery when shop online at Asda with the Asda card and points each time you use the card. All of these bonuses have either stopped or dramatically reduced. I accepted this as a sign of the times.Being environmentally friendly I went to e-statements. I regularly access my account to check transactions are correct and check my statements online. Today I discover I cannot access my account as not activated my account. To activate my account was going to cost 10p a minute.It has cost £1.50 for me to ring to not be able to do anything with my account as the system froze. Before it froze it took 4 minutes to speak to an operator - and that was with cancellations as no option for activation. I was informed I had not activated my account and despite informing the operator I had accessed my account and had e-statements I was informed it must be a new card - I assured him that couldn't be as using a card that still had over a month to run and not in receipt of a new card. I asked to cancel the card as it was costing me to use and minimal benefits. The system froze. The account did not get cancelled and I either have to ring back later (10p a minute) or write (not freepost address). Despite it being a problem with the call centre they will not ring the customer. Writing to cancel is the cheapest option. A new card with a decent bonus scheme has now been ordered. NOT A SANTANDER BANK

    I am having the same problem with my ASDA credit card. Online access to my account was disabled without warning. I was then informed that it would not be available again until after new cards had arrived and been activated (even though my existing cards do not expire until end of December). Initially I was told these were sent on November 6th, then in a subsequent call on November 9th and could take up to 14 days to arrive. None so far, they still have until the 24th to redeem themselves.
    By the way you can use 020 8181 0000 or 0113 280 7080 instead of the 0871 number. I have used the former successfully (numbers recommended by saynoto0870.com).
