I was quite frankly appalled by the low standard of customer service on this airline. I have flown with them before a few years ago and had no problems at all but how times have changed.
When we booked on line we requested a non-standard meal for my girlfriend. On checking in the night before the flight we asked at the desk for confirmation that this had been arranged. She confirmed that it hadn't but told us not to worry as she could change it there and then. When the meals arrived she was still down to have a standard meal which she couldn't eat. The steward stated that the meal couldn't possibly have been changed the night before as they need at least 4 days notice of any alteration. Given that this had been their error I suggested that they replace the meal with a sandwich so at least something could be eaten. The steward replied that he could sell us one and the best he could do is give a receipt so that we could claim it back from Thomson later. We refused to pay. I found it rather poor that he wasn't empowered to solve a genuine customer complaint with a solution that would have cost the company pennies.
On arriving at our destination I called the company helpline to ensure the same error was not replicated on the return flight. I was told that the 4 day rule was rubbish and all she could do is send an e-mail but nothing was guaranteed - fortunately the message did get through and a veggy meal was provided on the way back.
Word of warning if you want to buy drinks etc and you only have Euros - the bar/duty free is a sterling only service and, although they will accept Euros, they apply a terrible exchange rate when working out your change meaning for 1 small bottle of wine (cost £3.50) I handed over twenty Euros and got back £10.50. When I questioned why it cost so much I was given a print out of by transaction which confirmed the ridiculous exchange rate. When I asked if I could buy all my Euros from Thomsonfly at that rate I was met with a blank face and a 'no sir' before she walked off.
I don't know whether Thomson are a poor company to work for but the staff appeared to have no motivation to keep the customer happy. This will certainly be the last time I will waste my money on this company.
