I recently used resorthoppa for a transfer from Palma airport, Majorca to Santa ponsa - a trip they estimate to be 45 minutes.

Firstly, my original booking got cancelled - after a long wait I was told that they could not reinstate it I had to book again. One month later I still have not received a refund for the first booking.

Then it got much worse: Chapter 1... Transfer to resort

I was a little concerned that the website says they only transfer to 'recognised' resorts. I do not know how someone making a booking would know whether they 'recognised' their resort or not so I thought I would check. My booking had the resort name and the exact address in Santa Ponsa. I was told that yes this was fine - they drop to (or very near to) any resorts in Santa Ponsa- it is personal apartments ythey do not transfer to.

On arrival at Palma airport, the representative did not know where the resort was and said I had not put any details. The coach drivers didn't either but after a discussion with other drivers, our driver confirmed he knew where it was. I was told that the coach drivers only went to places on their maps - not mine - and their map didn't show all of Santa Ponsa and the part we were staying in was not on it. After one and a half hours (the website estimates 45 mins) the driver dropped off the last people except us and explained to me he didn't know where we were going. I showed him a map, I showed him the address but we still drove round for 15 minutes stopping at various places when he asked me if it was correct. I have never been to Majorca, so of course I would have no idea.

On the final stop, he stopped in a dead end road opposite a resort and asked me if it was correct. As I had no idea and didn't want to be left in the middle of nowhere I asked him to wait whilst I ran down the road and checked the resort. In order to save time, I left my bag on the coach with him and ran down the road. I read the resort sign and it was the correct place but when I turned back, I was amazed to see the driver had just driven off and abandoned us and taken my bag with him. This contained my passports, all my money and all my information as well as many expensive electrical goods.

I immediately rang the resorthoppa emergency line - and queued for several minutes. When I eventually got through to someone I was told that they couldn't do anything. They were not able to contact the resorthoppa desk at the airport, they were not able to contact the transport company, they wouldn't even find me the number for the airport or the lost property desk. All they were able to do was send an email to the lost property desk and 'see if you get a reply' - which may not have been until the next day.

It gets worse ... Chapter 2 The return transfer

As requested, 2 days before return, I rang the confirmation line. My reference would not go through the automated system so I had to ring the emergency line and wait for 10 minutes again.

This time I was told that they were not able to collect me from my resort and I needed to go to the nearest hotel. This was upsetting - it was about half a mile away - but I agreed. It was a huge 5* hotel on the main road. The representative told me that the transport company would not pick me up from there either and they had recommended another hotel that was near my resort. When I asked where, she could just say it was in 'Santa Ponsa' - not where.

Given that this company deals with transfers to holiday resorts I would expect the staff to have a reasonable grasp of the countries and even towns they are dealing with. This representative clearly had no idea at all of the size of Santa Ponsa and the fact that just because we were staying in Santa Ponsa that any hotel was close. The fact was that we were around 4 miles outside the 'centre'. This is NOT walking distance with 3 children, 5 suitcases and hand luggage.

No matter how I tried to explain that I could not get to either of the pickup points the girl was adamant that it was not resorthoppas fault - it was the transport company.

I had no way out and no option other than to accept one of these pick up points - but I informed the girl that I would need 2 taxis. As a final straw, when I asked the girl for the address of this hotel for the pickup point, she could not give me one. Even when I said Santa Ponsa is a huge town with thousands of hotels, all she could tell me was it was 'in the middle'. In all I was on a mobile phone 43 minutes.

This experience completely ruined our holiday and I am waiting for a response from ResortHoppa.

Hope this is a warning to anyone and may give some tips what to watch out for when booking with them!
