Sky Broadband is absolutely dire. After having to wait over a week for somebody to come out and basically fiddle with the phone sockets for ten minutes, the router arrived. The set up, admittedly was painless and quick, the CD provided walked me through it and I was set up wirelessly in less than 10 minutes. What came as a pleasant surprise was the fact they gave you a free wireless router (Virgin Media had us buy our own).

Then, the problems began. The range on the router is beyond terrible, to the point that if I were to pick up this laptop now and walk to the next room, it would disconnect. This is both through my built in wireless and through a great Belkin network card. Then yesterday, abruptly the wireless packed in altogether, no damage to the box was done, it just stopped sending out signals. Now I'm plugged into the thing via ethernet, the first time I've been wired into a modem for years. The speed is terrible though admittedly they trick you by saying "Upto 16 mbs" which is code for "if you sit right next to our antenna". Even more annoying is the boxes complete inability to be wired to any external router. In retrospect the "oh look it's wireless" router is shoddily made and useless.

Like most of the customers for Sky, we switched to them because the Sat TV on Virgin was terrible with a clunky interface and Sky were practically giving away their services. Virgin, whilst their Television was terrible, had a superbly functional internet service in comparison, which failed perhaps twice in 3 years and both were during thunderstorms. On this sunny Tuesday, I'm lucky to be connected to the internet at all. We shall be switching to a different ISP as soon as possible, which knowing Sky's customer service record will probably take as long as they can stretch it out.
