I appear to be one of the lucky ones. My car was actually available when I got there (booked 6 months before but when I found it was 68,000 Kms old, dirty and lacked 3 hub caps I checked it over thoroughly. The 1 mark on the official form we signed at the desk turned into 18 issues, including roof dents and every panel with a significant mark. When we updated the form and took it back to the office the official shrugged and ringed the whole car and signed it. I drove it away to find the next day that the suspension rattle was not my imagination and that a brake light and headlamp were broken. The Guardia will fine you heavily so I fixed the lights pronto. My host advised that we would be very lucky to get a replacement and Auriga would only swap after I paid for the suspension repair despite it being their responsibility so I chose to drive carefully with it.
It lasted the 2 weeks (just) and they just breezed over it at the return. The fuel trick also is a cheap one 60 Euro for a tank of diesel when it was 96 cents/l !
