Two years ago I opened an Abbey Business Account - the main reason was I needed an account fast and as a personal customer I thought it would be very simple (I was awaiting my driving licence as ID so was unable to approach another bank at the time). How wrong was I. I applied in January and then despite almost daily, frantic calls I was continually fobbed off with all manner of excuses - backlog, "it will be done by ......" was the usual excuse but of course never happened. By the time I received a bank account number and card I had waited over 3 months. Meanwhile, they had £240 deposit sitting in their bank gaining interest for 3 months! I was unable to bank any cheques, couldn't purchase the materials I needed for the business, lost my car which I needed for the business, couldn't pay for the storage I needed for the business - the list was endless and caused an horrific knock-on effect in so many areas. I was literally living on air and they nearly ruined my business before it had even started. In short, it was the most stressful time ever, and that is without struggling to run the business at the same time. I am still very, very angry. They are the most unco-operative, uncaring and inefficient bank going. I do not recommend this bank to anyone.
