gmiles's review of Toyota Celica 1.8 vvti

“I bought my Celica when it was just over three years...”

★★★★☆

I bought my Celica when it was just over three years of age, and have had it for over five years, to date it has been very reliable. As with others I discovered that the alloys suffer terrible corrosion, this is purley down to Toyota putting a thin coat of paint on them and not allowing for our winters.I had my alloys re-furbished four years ago and they still look good.I still think the Celica looks great despite the design being nine years old,it also has a cracking driving position, and handles aswell as it looks. The only downside is the lack of torque, its only got 125 Ib ft and that's above 6000rpm, so you always have to be in the right gear/powerband to get the best out of it. Having said this the pay off is good MPG,I always get between 35-40. Another good point is that the rear seats are usable, I often carry my two children in the back, not an option in say an Audi TT. In short the Toyota Celica is a good looking Coupe,is very reliable, cheap to run, has a degree of practicality for a Coupe, the only downside is that although it looks as if it's got a 200bhp + engine under the bonnet, it has'nt,but is redeemed a bit by it's excellent road holding.
