Below is a letter sent to Megabus advising them of the service i received on one of thier journeys. the response was (besides being sent to the wrong email address and therefore having to be chased by myself) was basically "it happens" (not in those exact words obviously). They did however, offer a refund of monies paid, and a free journey which in my mind completely makes up for me missing the final farewell to my beloved grandfather and also being there to help support my grandmother..... incase of any confusion, the last part was a little bit sarcastic.
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to you in extreme disappointment and disgust following a recent journey from Glasgow to Inverness.
I use your service regularly to travel between Inverness and Glasgow and almost every time I seem to experience some form of failing on behalf of your company to operate a professional and reliable service. This time, however, it was more than just inconvenience that was caused this time as your delays caused me to miss my grandfathers funeral.
The bus from Glasgow was due to leave at 8.40am. However, as I'm sure you are aware, the bus did not arrive in Glasgow until 9.10am. This seemed to be both expected and humorous to the other drivers and station staff waiting by the platform. Even other staff who were making their way to the staff lounge were shouting at the staff saying "late again?" and openly laughing about it in front of your frustrated customers.
Once the bus arrived we were held waiting for a further 5/10 minutes before we were allowed on the bus. Once on, I tried to find a seat only to be told by a fellow passenger that one of the two remaining seats that were available couldn't be used as there was a rather bad leak coming from the roof. This became more evident as the journey began and a constant stream of water ran through the roof and onto the vacant chair.
about 20 minutes into our already delayed journey the bus pulled over to the side of the motorway and remained stationary for some time without explanation. eventually a staff member came up to the top deck and advised that there was an electrical fault and another bus would be along shortly. Eventually another bus turned up and everyone began to get up and leave the bus. once half of the bus was off, the passengers were told to return to the bus as there was no need to change. apparently the second bus had only brought water for the driver to top up the water that was running out in the bus we were currently in. had the driver used any initiative he would have checked this whilst at the station. even allowing for human error he could have asked the passengers if anyone had some water, or even collected some of the flood that was coming through the roof!
After the bus got going again we then hit the traffic congestion caused by roadwork's outside of Glasgow. surely your drivers are aware of any traffic issues on their route before they leave and as a result of which should ensure that they are both running on time and that all relevant fluids have been refilled before they leave? Once through the traffic the bus then trundled very slowly to Perth where thankfully, the second half of my journey was not so grim.
Your bus was scheduled to arrive in Inverness at 12.10pm, it eventually arrived at 13.55. the funeral began at 13.30.
I should make you aware that it is my intention to forward this email and any response to the local and national media, should a satisfactory resolution and apology not be given by yourself.
I should also make you aware that on the return journey, there were no bathroom facilities aboard the bus. 1 stop was made for passengers to use a restroom in pitlochrie, however, on a journey that is 4 hours long I find it impossible to believe that your company deems this acceptable.
I look forward to your expedient response.
