In my 3500 miles, I've done NOTHING for maintenance. My first 1 1/2 years I didn't charged the batteries enough. Have had the second set for going on 4 years. I can keep up with traffic at 30+mph, but often choose not to to extend charge. It seems to me that gas drivers are used to quick pick up, and this one will do it, but at huge cost of juice. Gas drivers would realize savings too if they eased from the stop sign instead of flooring it. We see the same thing with Prius people who get better or worse mileage..how you accelerate matters. I love my EVT 4000e, having had four gas scooters, wouldn't go back.
