Whatever you do, don't get on a US Airways flight without a strong and filled stomach. Case in point: the Aug. 22 Flt. 799 from Philadelphia to Seattle.
The packed plane was delayed from taking off for two hours while passengers listened to a running series of petulant, scary, and increasingly pessimistic comments from the pilot about some sort of electronic problem that needed to be fixed and approved. Finally, to everyone's relief, the pilot announced that "they" had fixed "it."
You'd think in those two hours someone could have checked to see if they had enough food onboard to sell to the passengers, or at least enough toilet paper. But, no. They immediately ran out of sandwiches and snack boxes. What was left was uneatable.
After this stressful experience I asked about food when checking in for the flight home and was told, honestly, that it was limited. They ran out before Row 11, where I was sitting.
While I have to commend the maintenance people in Philadelphia who took the time to make sure the plane was OK, it would have helped a lot to have had a reassuring voice from the cockpit, some food, and a sincere apology.
