Took out Post Office Car Insurance when they came up cheapest in an online comparison. Had a year of trouble-free, claim-free driving and then received my renewal quote - an increase of £200 on the previous year! I rang up to query why and was told that the cost of insurance generally for "young drivers" (I was 28 at the time) had increased and I wouldn't get a cheaper quote elsewhere. Did another online comparison and discovered dozens of companies would insure me far more cheaply - and interestingly, the PO's price given in that comparison was £250 less than my renewal quote.

hi there, the reason why you renewal premium has increased is because the 1st year you went with p/office they discount you premium, in english they dont make any money off you as its based on 0% commision for p/office. only thing would make is the instalment fee charge if you pay instalments. if you dont then possible add-ons. you renewal premium, has increase because they need to make their money back at some point. there was a itv programme about this ages ago, it sounds stupid, cos common sense would say ull go with the cheapest price elsewhere. always shop around, but be careful as companies will give u a really cheap price, but can take off alot of you cover. if u are going comprehensive, always ensure your comp cvoer includes indemity, it is a large part of you cover, and these interent based companies remove this to seriously get your premium down
